Be Memorable!
You will be memorable for different reasons than you predict. Let me say that again…you will be memorable for different reasons than you predict.
I used to do in-services all the time in hospitals around the country, specifically in what’s called the Sterile Processing department. The presentations or in-services were mostly about proper cleaning of surgical instrumentation and there was one in-service that I’ll never forget—I was getting ready to make my most important point about instrument cleaning and how we’re all in this together and as I held my demonstration cleaning brush high in the air, my scrub pants dropped to the floor. If you can imagine—I wasn’t necessarily known on subsequent visits as the cleaning brush lady, but instead, the lady who’s drawers dropped to the ground during her presentation! I wanted to be memorable or my education but in that instance, it didn’t go as planned. I tell you this story to encourage you to GO FOR IT! Whatever that it is – just do it. You have zero control over what people remember you for but you have 100% control over whether they remember you in the first place.
